WELCOME!

At Forests and Fiction, I write about books (and other things) that I love

In 2021 I began reading for pleasure again for the first time in a decade. What started as a passive hobby is now a full-fledged passion.

Reading is a wonderful release for me that opens so many worlds and possibilities. Forests and Fiction serves as a place to celebrate this passion alongside the other things that bring joy in my life as well.

Book Review: Trial of the Sun Queen by Nisha J. Tuli

This is my third novel by Nisha J. Tuli and at this point, I’m pretty confident that I’ll like anything she writes. I’ve been hearing about this series for over a year now and I wish I had started it sooner. Trial of the Sun Queen was an excellent start to a fantasy romance with…

Book Review: The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

If you’ve been around the fantasy community for a while, the Folk of the Air series is one of the most heavily recommended in the young adult genre. The Cruel Prince came around after adolescence for me, so I didn’t read it when it first became popular, but when I saw it at my library…

In Artificial Condition, Wells delivers another chapter in Murderbot’s quest to discover what happened…

April Wrap-Up: Books Read, Season of Series Update, and What I’m Loving Right Now

I can’t believe it’s already time to wrap up April 2024. It feels like this year is flying, and the pinch to get more done feels stronger than ever as we prepare for our family to grow this fall.  In April, I entered my second trimester and with it, I finally got some of my…

Book Review: Heartless Sky by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

The Zodiac Academy is one of the wildest series I’ve ever read for a handful of reasons. It’s dramatic in an almost soap-opera style way, the characters are equal parts loveable and outrageous, it’s spicier than any book series I’ve ever read, and the world and plot are so intricate and so well developed that…

Book Review: Golden Son by Pierce Brown

When I picked up Red Rising for the first time a couple of months ago, it completely blew me away. It was exceptionally good sci-fi, probably better than I’ve read in a long time, and I was hooked on the premise immediately. You never know how a sequel will fare when the first book comes…
