WELCOME!

At Forests and Fiction, I write about books (and other things) that I love

In 2021 I began reading for pleasure again for the first time in a decade. What started as a passive hobby is now a full-fledged passion.

Reading is a wonderful release for me that opens so many worlds and possibilities. Forests and Fiction serves as a place to celebrate this passion alongside the other things that bring joy in my life as well.

Book Review: The Secret History by Donna Tartt

I picked up The Secret History because I’d seen a number of people describe it as a classic piece of dark academia. People who love it seem to REALLY love it, and whenever I see a fandom that’s devoted to a book in that way, it makes me curious. I can absolutely see why many…

Book Review: Glint by Raven Kennedy

The Plated Prisoner Series is one of the most hyped fantasy/fantasy romance series on bookstagram, and deservedly so. I really enjoyed the first book, Gild, which set the stage for the series as a retelling of King Midas, and this second installment was even better. Kennedy did such a magnificent job of taking this unique…

Book Review: Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney

Book Review: These Twisted Bonds by Lexi Ryan

These Twisted Bonds was a great end to a solid YA duology. The series had well-constructed world-building, a cast of loveable characters, and a great plot with engaging relationship dynamics. It was a little angsty, and I found the audiobook narrator took some time to get used to, but about halfway through, I found the…

Book Review: The Reckoning (The Zodiac Academy #3) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The Zodiac Academy is one of the most addictive series I’ve read. It’s dramatic and full of early adulthood angst, but the over-the-top nature of the books is part of the series’ charm. Now that so much of the magic system and universe is established, I…

Book Review: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

I love a good dark academia novel, and If We Were Villains is one of my favourites that I’ve read in some time. I can’t even recall where I first started seeing positive reviews about it since it’s been around for a while, but it lived up to the hype. Set in a conservatory school…
