February 2024 Most Anticipated Fantasy Book Releases

January 2024 Wrap-Up: Books Read, TBR Lists, and What I’m Loving Right Now

This month, it was difficult for me to narrow down the books that I’m most excited for in fantasy releases because honestly, there are so many good ones coming! I was fortunate enough to read two of these books as ARCs, and one I have an ARC for queued up as my next read.

I think 2024 is likely to be the year of fantastic fantasy for me. Here are some of the books I’m most excited about this February:

Tales of the Celestial Kingdom by Sue Lynn Tan
Tales of the Celestial Kingdom by Sue Lynn Tan

Tales of the Celesetial Kingdom by Sue Lynn Tan
Release date: February 6, 2024

Why I’m excited about it:

I didn’t expect to get to return to the Celestial Kingdom after the unreal duology that Tan put together so this book is a special treat! I can’t wait to jump back in and read more about this realm and the characters I love.

Synopsis:

Tales from the Celestial Kingdom collects nine spellbinding stories—two previously published, seven original, including the epilogue to the duology—set in the enchanting world of Sue Lynn Tan’s stunning debut. Filled with magic and mythology, friendship and love, these stories intertwine through the past, present, and future of the two novels, told from the perspectives of multiple characters, including Chang’e, Shuxiao, Liwei, and Wenzhi.

With beautiful illustrations from Kelly Chong throughout, these wondrous tales make the perfect complement to Sue Lynn Tan’s breathtaking series.

Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender
Release date: February 6, 2024

Why I’m excited about it:

I read this YA fantasy as an ARC last year and felt like it was really imaginative and unique. It had a great magic system, a fast-paced plot, and a diverse cast. There was a lot to enjoy in this book.

Synopsis:

For Ash Woods, practicing alchemy is a crime.

Only an elite few are legally permitted to study the science of magic—so when Ash is rejected by Lancaster College of Alchemic Science, he takes a job as the school’s groundskeeper instead, forced to learn alchemy in secret.

When he’s discovered by the condescending and brilliant apprentice Ramsay Thorne, Ash is sure he’s about to be arrested—but instead of calling the reds, Ramsay surprises Ash by making him an offer: Ramsay will keep Ash’s secret if he helps her find the legendary Book of Source, a sacred text that gives its reader extraordinary power.

As Ash and Ramsay work together and their feelings for each other grow, Ash discovers their mission is more dangerous than he imagined, pitting them against influential and powerful alchemists—Ash’s estranged father included. Ash’s journey takes him through the cities and wilds across New Anglia, forcing him to discover his own definition of true power and how far he and other alchemists will go to seize it.

Why I’m excited about it:

I have an ARC of this one sitting on my NetGalley shelf and it’s the next read on my TBR! Everything about the premise sounds intriguing to me and I’m so excited to dive in.

Summary:

Late one night, Laura, Daniel, and Mo find themselves beneath the fluorescent lights of a high school classroom, almost a year after disappearing from their hometown, the small seaside community of Lovesend, Massachusetts, having long been presumed dead. Which, in fact, they are.

With them in the room is their previously unremarkable high school music teacher, who seems to know something about their disappearance—and what has brought them back again. Desperate to reclaim their lives, the three agree to the terms of the bargain their music teacher proposes. They will be given a series of magical tasks; while they undertake them, they may return to their families and friends, but they can tell no one where they’ve been. In the end, there will be winners and there will be losers.

But their resurrection has attracted the notice of other supernatural figures, all with their own agendas. As Laura, Daniel, and Mo grapple with the pieces of the lives they left behind, and Laura’s sister, Susannah, attempts to reconcile what she remembers with what she fears, these mysterious others begin to arrive, engulfing their community in danger and chaos, and it becomes imperative that the teens solve the mystery of their deaths to avert a looming disaster.

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown
The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown
Release Date: February 13, 2024

Why I’m excited about it:

As a book nerd, I love books about book shops and libraries. Add in a pile of mystery and this sounds like exactly the type of book that I’ll be interested in.

Synopsis:

Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading.

But this is no ordinary book…

It is the Book of Doors.

Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Then she’s approached by a gaunt stranger in a rumpled black suit with a Scottish brogue who calls himself Drummond Fox. He’s a librarian who keeps watch over a unique set of rare volumes. The tome now in Cassie’s possession is not the only book with great power, but it is the one most coveted by those who collect them.

Now Cassie is being hunted by those few who know of the Special Books. With only her roommate Izzy to confide in, she has to decide if she will help the mysterious and haunted Drummond protect the Book of Doors—and the other books in his secret library’s care—from those who will do evil. Because only Drummond knows where the unique library is and only Cassie’s book can get them there.

But there are those willing to kill to obtain those secrets. And a dark force—in the form of a shadowy, sadistic woman—is at the very top of that list.

Release date: February 16, 2024

Why I’m excited about it:

This is the second book in The Nightfire Quartet series and as I read it as an ARC, I can confirm that it’s absolutely outstanding. I can’t emphasize enough how good Nisha J. Tuli is at crafting compulsively readable romantasy with amazing characters and gorgeous settings. I am addicted to this series.

Synopsis:

In the jeweled city of Dharati, Zarya found passion and adventure for the first time. A mysterious stranger named Rabin helped to free the power within her—a dark, ancient magic that should not exist.

Now, Zarya learns Rabin’s true identity. A warrior prince, born to rule, he is as deadly as he is beautiful. He’s also insufferable. Arrogant and superior, with dangerous secrets of his own.

Zarya wants nothing to do with him. Terrifying demons are gathering beyond the walls and Zarya’s friends are rushing to complete a ceremony that will protect the city. Her mind is fixed on saving her home and finding the origin of her magic.

But every discovery and every dream pulls her back to Rabin. Does an enchantment bind them, or is it pure desire? Will opening her heart give Zarya the power to turn back the demons, or will it let the darkness devour her?

Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana

Release date: February 27, 2024

Why I’m excited about it:

Another book about libraries! And Fae! And magic! This book has all of the makings of a great story to me. I can’t wait to dive into it.

Synopsis:

In a land ruled by ruthless Fae, twenty-one-year-old Lore Alemeyu’s village is trapped in a forested prison. Lore knows that any escape attempt is futile—her scars are a testament to her past failures. But when her village is threatened, Lore makes a desperate deal with a Fae lord. She will leave her home to catalog/organize an enchanted library that hasn’t been touched in a thousand years. No Fae may enter the library, but there is a chance a human might be able to breach the cursed doors.

She convinces him that she will risk her life for wealth, but really she’s after the one thing the Fae covet above all: magic of her own.

As Lore navigates the hostile world outside, she’s forced to rely on two Fae males to survive. Two very different, very dangerous, very attractive Fae males. When undeniable chemistry ignites, she’s not just in danger of losing her life, but her heart to the very creatures she can never trust.

Any great books here that I’ve missed for fantasy for the month of February?
